As the state of Louisiana prepares to celebrate its 200th year of statehood, Louisianians will get an assist from the Peter Mayer design team in displaying their bicentennial pride.

Louisiana became the 18th state to join the United States of America on April 30, 1812. The Louisiana Bicentennial Commission, headed by retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, is planning a statewide celebration leading up to April 2012.

With the Bicentennial Commission’s direction, Peter Mayer designed a commemorative bicentennial license plate that will begin appearing on Louisiana’s cars and trucks this month.
