NEW ORLEANS August 14, 2009 — Peter A. Mayer Advertising recently won a National Silver Addy Award for its work on behalf of the Audubon Nature Institute, for a comic strip series it created to run in The Times-Picayune entitled “Audubon Bug Bites.” The 1/6-page comic strip ran at the top of the Comics section of the Sunday edition of the paper over a two-month period in the fall of 2008. The strip promoted visitation to the Audubon Nature Institute’s newly established Insectarium, which showcases the largest group of animals on the planet, insects.
The Audubon Nature Institute, a New Orleans not-for-profit organization that features nine parks and museums dedicated to preserving nature, is the first advertiser ever to run a comic strip promotion in the Comics section of The Times-Picayune. “Usually, people focus on the creative message of an ad. However, here we proved that the medium itself can be creative. And we appreciate the confidence our client, the Audubon Nature Institute, showed in allowing us to promote its newest facility in a casual, humorous and totally appropriate way,” said Mark A. Mayer, agency president.
The not-for-profit American Advertising Federation conducts the annual ADDY Awards with the goal of awarding true talent in all forms of advertising and media. More than 1,500 entrants competed for National ADDY Awards this year and only 175 entries were awarded National ADDY honors.
