Louisianians wait all year for crawfish season and celebrate its arrival every spring with crawfish boils. Gatherings vary in size and location, from backyards to parks to restaurant courtyards, but no matter the locale, the crustacean celebrations always include great food, cold beer and good friends.
At Peter Mayer, our annual crawfish boil is a celebration of our internal culture. We’re a mix of native residents and transplants from all over the globe, but whether we suck the heads or make a face at the mere suggestion, we come together to listen to local music, participate in hysterical games and eat crawfish. This year, the 33rd Annual Peter Mayer Crawfish Boil was held at Bayou Beer Garden and included live music by Tom Hook and Wendell Brunious.
According to Office Manager Tracey Smith, who heads the planning committee, “Bayou Beer Garden is the perfect location because it works when the weather doesn’t completely cooperate, and the neutral ground is a great place to hold the Peter Mayer Olympics.”
For the last two years, neighborhood onlookers – including those in traffic – have gotten a big kick out of watching games inspired by events that transpired at the agency in the last year. The lineup included a toilet game entitled “Out of Order” and “Does This Come Off?,” where teammates wrote on each other’s arms with a Sharpie® held between the teeth – a salute to our anniversary party photo shoot with photographer Robert X. Forgarty. Along with an enormous trophy, the winning team took home stylish crawfish hats and the right to plan next year’s games.
In addition to the games and good eats, the agency raffled off five any day Jazz Fest tickets to raise money for Animal Rescue New Orleans.
