Peter Mayer Advertising experts talk Super Bowl ads on WWL-TV
Advertising professionals from Peter Mayer appeared in-studio on WWL-TV to assess Super Bowl ads the morning after the big game on New Orleans’ CBS TV station. Peter Mayer’s Chief Creative Officer, Josh Mayer, and Interactive Media Director, Jeremy Braud, appeared with news anchor Eric Paulsen and discussed the Audi and Hyundai spots, among others. While also generating lots of online chatter on social media channels like Twitter, Mayer and Braud felt the GoDaddy.com spot was a great example of advertising that provided shock value and reaction but not necessarily reaction that effectively sells the brand. Folks on the WWL-TV set agreed that the commercial had a bit of a gross factor. Mayer and Braud also discussed what went

Life lessons and hurricane hints

I’m a Hurricane Betsy survivor.
In 1963, my family didn’t evacuate, even though it was a Category 4 storm. Where would we go? One grandmother lived in the other half of our shotgun double, the other grandmother lived across the street, and my aunt was around the corner. No one evacuated—leaving the city was an expensive and unheard-of proposition.
After the hurricane had finally passed, I remember my mother standing in the kitchen, submerged in two feet of water. She used the rotary dial phone mounted on the wall to call a friend across town to arrange a pick-up for

Indelible Ink – Thoughts on the storm, seven years out

Along with satsumas and crawfish, hurricanes develop seasonally as part of an annual natural cycle that shapes South Louisiana’s distinctive cultural character. The season brings with it a special vocabulary, both visual and verbal, of storm surge and blowing palmettos. Once again, these familiar sensations have returned with the development of Hurricane Isaac. Though this storm is turning out to be a milder one, it reminds us of important lessons learned and keeps us on our toes. These things are as much a part of life here now as they were for the generations that preceded us.
