Antoine’s Celebrates 175th Anniversary

Recently, the Public Relations team at Peter Mayer Advertising has been working with Antoine’s Restaurant for the celebration of its 175th anniversary. The holistic public relations program surrounding the milestone included a kickoff press conference, Manhattan national media tour, a formal James Beard House dinner, and strategic outreach to select publications and media outlets throughout the year.

In celebration of the 175th anniversary and facilitated by the PR department, Parade magazine featured the restaurant with inclusion of two of its most loved signature offerings: Shrimp Remoulade and the classic French 75 cocktail.  A celebration of two storied entities, Parade magazine – now nearing its 75th year in publication – and Antoine’s, in celebrating its 175th year, made for a perfect pairing in subject matter and media partners.

Since 1840, the landmark New Orleans restaurant has established itself as the premiere culinary destination for both local residents and visiting tourists seeking authentic French-Creole cuisine in the historic French Quarter. 2015 marked a milestone for Antoine’s; it is the 175th year of operation for the country’s oldest continually operating, family-owned restaurant. Notable legacy dishes at the revered establishment, founded by Antoine Alciatore, include the signature Oysters Rockefeller, so named for the richness of the sauce and widely considered one of the greatest culinary creations of all time – the recipe of which remains a closely guarded secret.

Any visit to Antoine’s immediately becomes memorable. Guests can dine in any of the 14 dining rooms of varying sizes and themes, all steeped in history. Three of the private rooms bear the names of traditional New Orleans Carnival krewes: Rex, Proteus and Twelfth Night Revelers, with the bar named after the Krewe of Hermes. The walls are adorned with photos of Carnival royalty and memorabilia, including crowns and scepters from many years long past.

Having weathered the devastation of Katrina and suffering over $16 million in damages, the restaurant persevered, a testament to the resiliency and lasting spirit of not only Antoine’s but the people of New Orleans as a whole. For information about Antoine’s Restaurant, visit http://www.antoines.com/.
