On Sunday, April 7, a team of Peter Mayer employees and their four-legged friends walked in the Louisiana SPCA’s annual Dog Day Afternoon fundraising event at City Park. The Louisiana SPCA is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization that advocates for the animals of Louisiana through innovative programs, education and services.
Peter Mayer is known for our “open dog” policy, and on any given day you can find a number of furry-friends spending the day at the agency. Signature Peter Mayer dog bowls rest next to all of our water coolers. When it comes to man and woman’s best friends, we take them seriously, making Dog Day Afternoon the ideal event for us to participate in.
The day included a fun walk, delicious food, music, dog treats, games and even a look-alike contest. There were dogs in every shape, size, breed and mix imaginable, from dogs you could fit in the palm of your hand, to dogs the size of a small pony. One of the most memorable dogs was a three-legged cutie named Flower, a rescue from the LASPCA. Her adopted family pushed her around the event in a grocery basket covered with flowers.
This year, the LASPCA’s fundraising goal was $75,000, and 54 teams participated in the event. Our team, named Boomer’s Buddies after my loveable Labradoodle, Boomer, who specializes in being the leader of the pack, raised over $2,200.
Thank you to the tremendous efforts of our agency team, friends and family for making us one of the top fundraising teams of the entire event!
