An Agency Gift Guide: What to give an advertising or public relations professional for the holidays

Advertising and public relations professionals can create an ad, write a press release, or post a perfect status update in their sleep, but may come up short when communicating what’s on their list this holiday. We surveyed 116 of our colleagues to find out what they want. Make your favorite communicator squeal like a 10-year- old this December with a gift from this list.

The gadget I really want:

Android may be gaining market share in the mobile race, but in this office Apple is crossing the finish line first. Twenty-four percent of our respondents would prefer an Apple device over any other tech gadget under their tree. The ever elusive Hover Board came in second. We’re sure you were just as disappointed as us in the hover-less board announced by Mattel in February. Still, here’s hoping. And according to our survey results, there is a market.

What I really need:

To appeal to the practical side of the communicator on your list check out socks and undies, a Keurig Coffee Maker and a surprise hit: diamonds. As we know, diamonds are forever, but car parts also made this list – so, you have options.

To keep me happy at work:

Creativity keeps odd hours and chances are the lights are on in the Peter Mayer building anytime you plan to stop by. With that in mind, we asked the office what they’d like to see to brighten up their work space. The battle between productivity and environment was fierce with clones, office supplies and robots in the ring. But, overall, enriching the environment won big. You can rest assured the calendar of Chuck Norris’ inspirational quotes will find a home in this building. And 18% of the office would welcome a stress ball. Of course, all bets are off if you can deliver a Secretary.

If I could change the world:

Everyone is trying to change the world in their own way, including the folks at Peter Mayer. Whether it’s a bike ride to cure MS or a fundraising drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy, there is an opportunity to get involved at every turn. If we could change the whole world though, we would want peace on Earth – no matter how cheesy that sounds.

And as we reflect on the meaning of the holidays and how all important Santa Claus was to us in the not so distant past, check out the infographic above for what this group of communicators wanted then (and now). If Santa Claus were real, then money wouldn’t be an obstacle; and in that case, Santa, what we’d really like this year is a private island. What would you ask for? Let us know on our Facebook page.
