On July 23, more than 40 restaurants in Tri-Cities, Wash., distributed free french fries to customers all day long. Dubbed “Free Fries Fryday,” the event was a huge success.
America’s No. 1 french fry company, Tri-Cities-based ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston retained Peter Mayer to manage public relations for the event, which brings together local restaurants, french fry lovers and the local food bank to celebrate the start of the Tri-City Water Follies and Lamb Weston Columbia Cup boat race weekend.
Nearly 33,000 servings of french fries were given away, and 3,667 fans joined the Lamb Weston Facebook page. Since Lamb Weston pledged to donate a dime for every serving of fries distributed and $1 for every new Facebook fan generated to Second Harvest Tri-Cities, the event generated $6,966, which will equate to 41,795 pounds of food, or 167,179 meals for Tri-Cities families in need.
Peter Mayer secured almost 20 local media opportunities for Lamb Weston to publicize the event and managed the event’s Facebook page, including launching a french fry trivia contest.
The Peter Mayer public relations team generated tremendous buzz for the event through media coverage on all major television and radio stations in Tri-Cities, as well as feature stories in the Tri-City Herald.
