Peter Mayer recently teamed with ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston to handle events and promotions associated with the official grand opening of the company’s new state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly sweet potato processing plant in Delhi, La.
To kick off the grand opening of the plant, Peter Mayer managed media relations for “Get Sweet. Our Treat.,” a sweet potato fries giveaway promotion. On November 3, 150 participating restaurants in Monroe, La., and Jackson, Miss., distributed free servings of sweet potato fries to their customers. The promotion received an abundance of news coverage in key media outlets, including 20 radio interviews, six radio remotes and 11 TV interviews. Peter Mayer also executed the editorial content and daily management of the promotion’s “I Love Sweet Potato Fries” Facebook fan page, which generated support from thousands of online users. By day’s end, 26,240 servings of sweet potato fries were given away, and the promotion raised more than $10,000 to fight hunger in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Lamb Weston also tapped Peter Mayer to assist with planning and execution of the grand opening press conference and ribbon cutting with Gov. Bobby Jindal, ConAgra Foods CEO Gary Rodkin, Lamb Weston President Jeff DeLapp, Plant Manager Doug Beyer, and other Lamb Weston executives and local leaders. An employee picnic followed the press conference.
The weekend culminated with a community celebration at the Delhi National Guard Armory to show appreciation for the residents in Northeast Louisiana who have enthusiastically welcomed Lamb Weston to the area. Peter Mayer organized an all-day celebration, including performances by local school groups and musical acts as well as kids’ activities, food vendors and free sweet potato fries for all attendees.
The grand opening activities received news and editorial coverage in key media outlets including The News Star, The Advocate, The Times-Picayune, KNOE-TV, KTVE NBC 10 and several trade media outlets.
