Sporting events often put New Orleans in the national spotlight, but earlier this month, the circumstances were unique. On Saturday, Jan. 7, the New Orleans Saints hosted the Detroit Lions in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for an NFL playoff game. Just 48 hours later, the Superdome featured a repainted field and new signage and banners for the BCS National Championship. These events required complicated planning and around-the-clock preparation work, as well as staggered venue openings throughout, to accommodate a media day and multiple team practices.
Peter Mayer PR worked with the Superdome’s management company, SMG, to plan and host opportunities for select members of the media to record the preparation activities and interview SMG Executive Vice President Doug Thornton.
Both games attracted major national news coverage. Between the games, media outlets turned their attention to the Superdome’s ability to host two large events in such a short time period—reinforcing the venue and city’s reputation of capably planning and hosting such events.
